An unidentified site manager for Paramount Pictures' upcoming "Star Trek" film suffered moderate injuries following a head-on crash Tuesday outside of a Bakersfield, Calif. shooting location for the J.J. Abrams movie.
KERO-Channel 23 in Bakersfield reported the crash which took place near Highway 119 and Enos Lane. According to the California Highway Patrol, the site manager was trying to turn onto a road where filming was set to take place, but instead crossed in front of oncoming traffic and hit a truck.
Both the site manager and the truck driver were taken to a local hospital, but shooting on the film was not disrupted.
While principal photography on "Star Trek" is complete, it seems that there is still some second-unit filming taking place in various locations. Bakersfield is located almost equidistantly between Los Angeles and Fresno, just a little more than 100 miles from each. Filming for shows such as "Jericho" and "The X-Files" has taken place there, as well as movies such as "The Running Man" and "K-PAX."
It's also the infamous hometown of Gabriel Koerner, who was featured in the documentaries "Trekkies" and "Trekkies 2," who later became a special effects artist working on series including "Battlestar Galactica" as well as movies such as "Superman Returns," "Serenity" and the upcoming "Speed Racer."
The new "Star Trek" movie is being readied for a May 2009 release.
