Hmm, looks like my comment has set some peeps off.
Anyhoo, I really do think that the title 'doctor' is more of a profession than a qualification to the Doctor. It’d be really pompous of him if it turned out the other way round. My proof is also apparent in the episode "The Sound Of Drums", where the Master remarks to the Doctor that they both chose their names, and that it was sanctimonious of the Doctor to identify himself as "the man who makes people better." Capt. Jack also made a similar analogy in Torchwood, that he was waiting for, not any doctor, but THE Doctor to cure / save him from immortality.
So there, it’s just my input, never meant to upset anyone tho…
