附带莎士比亚十四行诗一首: My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun; Coral is far more red than her lips' red; If snow be white, why then her breasts are dun; If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her head. I have seen roses damask'd, red and white, But no such roses see I in her cheeks; And in some perfumes is there more delight Than in the breath that from my mistress reeks. I love to hear her speak, yet well I know That music hath a far more pleasing sound; I grant I never saw a goddess go; My mistress, when she walks, treads on the ground: And yet, by heaven, I think my love as rare As any she belied with false compare. 注释: 1、eyes...like the sun:以太阳喻明亮的眼睛,参见33.2注。nothing:not at all. 2、Coral,指红珊瑚。red(n.):red colour. 3、be:is (thought of as).why:感叹词。 dun: of a dull greyish-brown colour. 4、be wires:are called wires;当时诗人常把女子金黄色的头发比作 golden wires,即金丝。 5、damasked:(有如)织在大马士革织绵上的;damask(n.),大马士革织绵;damask rose,大马士革玫瑰,可制香精。 8、reeeks:comes forth;当时此字无贬义,十七世纪末以后才开始含 stink 等义。 11、grant:admit that. go:walk. 12、treads on the ground:i.e. like any other mortal. 13、by heav'n:指天为誓。love:mistress.rare:marvelous,splendid. 14、she(n.):woman.belied:about whom lies are tolf.compare:comparison;指用 the sun, coral, snow, golden wires 等来形容女子的比喻。
