哈伯望远镜(Hubble Space Telescope)是由欧洲太空总署(ESA)与美国太空总署(NASA)的长期合作计划，其放置于大气层之外，就好像是放在太空中的一座天文台一样， 以利国际太空天文学家共同研究，哈伯望远镜构想于1940年代，设计于70至80年代，1990年4月25日发射升空(任务编号STS-31)，是一具口 径2.4公尺的反射式望远镜，目前置于地球低卫星轨道上(600公里高空)。为了纪念Edwin Hubble对天文的贡献，所以命名为哈伯望远镜本电影讲述了15年哈伯望远镜计划的历史，由最初的艰苦经营到后期的科学发现。
