    * Talla, the daughter of Shran, an Andorian, and Jhamel, an Aenar, is born. Shran leaves the Andorian Imperial Guard around this time. (ENT: "These Are the Voyages...")

Notes

    * According to his biographical profile seen in "In a Mirror, Darkly, Part II", Jonathan Archer's tenure as commander of Enterprise NX-01 ends. On screen evidence of this seems to indicate otherwise however.

2161

Events

    * The United Federation of Planets is officially formed (treaties signed and ratified) in San Francisco by representatives from Earth, Vulcan, Andoria and Tellar. (TNG: "The Outcast"; ENT: "Zero Hour", "These Are the Voyages..."; VOY: "Homestead")

edit Notes

    * Ronald D. Moore commented that he felt that the Federation Starfleet Charter incorporates military, exploratory, and scientific missions. (AOL chat, 1997) We may assume that the original Earth Starfleet changed or expanded this year, too, in order to become the new Federation Starfleet. As hinted in numerous non-canon sources it was merged with MACO, the Andorian Imperial Guard and the respective Vulcan and Tellarite entities for that purpose.

2164

    * Guinan meets Q for the first time. (TNG: "Q Who")

    * The colony ship SS Mariposa attempts to land on a planet in a star system half a light year from Bringloid. (TNG: "Up The Long Ladder")

The episode inaccurately says these events occurred 300 years before the episode "Up the Long Ladder" set in year 2365.

    * In an alternate timeline, Jonathan Archer, suffering from anterograde amnesia, found himself living on Ceti Alpha V, the last refuge of Human survivors from the Xindi's destruction of Earth. This had the additional effect of reversing the events of the twelve years he spent with the condition. (ENT: "Twilight")

    * The white rhinoceros becomes extinct on Earth. (TNG: "New Ground")

2184

Events

2185

Events

    * According to a statement made by Doctor Carol Marcus in 2285, Starfleet had "kept the peace for a hundred years" since 2185. (Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan)

Doctor Marcus's statement seems to not take into account the obvious conflicts of the 2250s and 2260s, most notably the Battle of Axanar and the First Federation-Klingon War.

External links

    * 2200 at Memory Beta, the wiki for licensed Star Trek works

2203
Events

    * None yet

Notes

    * Although it wasn't established in dialog, 2203 is a likely birth date for Doctor Philip Boyce, who was described as being 51 years of age in Gene Roddenberry's early drafts of TOS: "The Cage", taking place in 2254.

2218
Events

    * According to a speech given by John Gill, the Zeon colony on Ekos was established shortly after this year. (TOS: "Patterns of Force")

Notes

    * According to the Star Trek Chronology and other reference works, 2218 was the year in which the Federation made first contact with the Klingon Empire, supposedly based on a line spoken by Dr. McCoy in the TOS episode "Day of the Dove". Not only have events in the ENT pilot "Broken Bow" proven this false, but it appears that line of dialog never actually made it to the finished episode.

2222
Events

    * Montgomery Scott is born. (TNG: "Relics")

2229
Events

    * Around this year, Dax attempts to solve an Altonian brain teaser for the first time. (DS9: "A Man Alone")

It was not revealed which Dax host was carrying the symbiont at the time. From the dates, it is likely to be either Tobin or Emony.

2230
Events

    * Spock is born on Vulcan to Sarek and his Human wife, Amanda. (TAS: "Yesteryear")
    * T'Pring is born on Vulcan. (TOS: "Amok Time")

Notes

    * According to the Star Trek Encyclopedia, a line in an early draft of the script for TOS: "Journey to Babel" suggested that the Vulcan Sarek and the Human Amanda Grayson are married in this year.

2232
Events

    * Janice Rand is born. (VOY: "Flashback")
    * Finnegan is born. (TOS: "Shore Leave")

2233

    * Admiral Jonathan Archer retires. (ENT: "In a Mirror, Darkly, Part II")

Alternate reality

    * On stardate 2233.04, the Romulan mining vessel Narada arrives from 2387 and engages the USS Kelvin. Captain Richard Robau is ordered aboard the mining ship and is asked the location of Ambassador Spock and the stardate. When the date is mentioned, Nero immediately kills him in rage. He resumes his attack, resulting in the destruction of the Kelvin and the death of George Kirk, who took command for 12 minutes after Robau's departure and death; James T. Kirk is born on Medical Shuttle 37 as it departs the Kelvin. (Star Trek)

According to a Q&A with Bob Orci at trekmovie.com, Nero's incursion occurred during the USS Kelvin's voyage to Earth. Up to this point the timelines were identical.

2234
Notes

    * According to the Picard family album from Star Trek Generations, on April 10th 2234 at 1800 hours, the Gallic-Klingon Debating Society organizes a wine tasting of spring bottlings from Picard vineyards of LaBarre, France (European Union, Earth, Sol). This event was organized by Robt. Picard and the Onizuka Wing of Starfleet Academy. Plomeek soup was also to be served.

2236
Events

    * The SS Columbia expedition from the American Continent Institute crash-lands on the planet Talos IV. Theodore Haskins and his entire party are killed, save one survivor named Vina. Before landing, the ship emits a radio-interference distress call that will be intercepted by the USS Enterprise in 2254. (TOS: "The Cage")

Notes

    * Some time after the Columbia crashes, the time barrier is broken, revolutionizing space travel. Communications also improve in intervening years since the interference wave and lightspeed-only communications seem to be considered obsolete in 2254 when this ship's signal is received. This fact seems inconsistent with Star Trek: Enterprise, which featured faster-than-light communication in the 2150s.

2237
Episode

    * TAS: "Yesteryear"

edit Events

    * After playing a practical joke on someone, Spock is branded as a "practical joker" in his hometown of ShiKahr on Vulcan. (TAS: "Yesteryear")

    * T'Pring is betrothed to Spock through a mind meld. (TOS: "Amok Time")

Alternate timelines

    * In one alternate timeline, Spock is killed by a le-matya. Following his death, his mother Amanda separates from her husband Sarek. Later that year, she is killed in an accident at Lunaport. Subsequent to the death of his wife and son, Sarek represents the Vulcan government as ambassador to seventeen worlds for the next thirty years. (TAS: "Yesteryear")
    * In yet another timeline, Spock lives as well as his pet sehlat I-Chaya. (TAS: "Yesteryear")

Apocrypha

    * Another starship disappears near Taurus II. (TAS: "The Lorelei Signal")

Alternate reality

    * Pavel Chekov is born to Andrei Chekov. (Star Trek)

Background information

    * Chekov's age from Star Trek contradicts his age from TOS: "Who Mourns for Adonais?", which has him born in 2245.

2242
Events
Vader's gravestone

    * Vader, a resident of the Caldos colony, dies on the 23rd of September. (TNG: "Sub Rosa")

Background

    * A medical record seen in TOS: "Where No Man Has Gone Before" lists Gary Mitchell as 23 years old. If this was his age at the time of the episode, set in 2265, that would mean he was born in 2242. It is unknown, however, if that record was from Mitchell's last psychological examination (which could have been several years prior) or if was more recent. The record also lists him as being born in the city of Eldman on stardate 1087.7.
    * An early draft of TOS: "Miri" would have established that Janice Rand was twenty-four years old at that time, and thus would have been born in this year.

2243
Events

    * Richard Daystrom invents the duotronic computer and is subsequently awarded the Nobel and Zee-Magnees Prizes for his achievements. (TOS: "The Ultimate Computer")

2244
Notes

    * Doctor Elizabeth Dehner's medical records viewed in 2265 give Dehner's age as 21, suggesting she was born in 2244. However, it is unclear whether those records were up-to-date or whether they were from her last medical examination. In any event, she was born in the city of Delman. (TOS: "Where No Man Has Gone Before")

2245

Events
By starship

USS Enterprise

    * The USS Enterprise is launched from San Francisco Fleet Yards under the command of Captain Robert April. His wife, Sarah April, is the vessel's first medical officer. (TAS: "The Counter-Clock Incident")

Other events

    * Pavel Andreievich Chekov is born to Andrei Chekov in Russia, on Earth. (TOS: "Who Mourns for Adonais?")
    * The Battle of Donatu V is fought between Federation and Klingon forces near Sherman's Planet. The battle ends without results. (TOS: "The Trouble with Tribbles")
    * Emony Dax visits Earth to judge a gymnastics competition at the University of Mississippi, where she meets Leonard McCoy. She told him he "had the hands of a surgeon." (DS9: "Trials and Tribble-ations") Afterward, he began his career in medicine. (TAS: "The Pirates of Orion")

Background

    * According to "The Pirates of Orion", Leonard McCoy became a doctor in this year. Since he was eighteen at this time, it is likely that the episode refers to the beginning of his undergraduate studies, supported by "Trials and Tribble-ations".

    * The 2245 date for the Enterprise commissioning was established behind-the-scenes by Gene Roddenberry. It has been regarded as fairly definitive, and included in the Star Trek Chronology, and would, in turn, be referenced in an unseen portion of Jonathan Archer's biographical display created for "In a Mirror, Darkly". Although this clashes with a "twenty years old" reference in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, which would indicate that the Enterprise only dated back to the early 2260s, the later date is supported by the fact that Pike served aboard her during the 2250s, and April much earlier, who served aboard prior to his ambassadorship, beginning in 2250, while under the assumption that he commanded a five-year mission.

    * Unused material from Archer's biographical display also stated he died this year, one day after observing the christening of the Enterprise.

Alternate reality
Young James T. Kirk of an alternate reality in 2245

    * Around this year, a young James T. Kirk went for a joyride in his stepfather's Corvette, bailing out just as the car fell into a deep quarry. (Star Trek)

(It seems that Archer did not die in 2245 in the alternate reality as, according to Scotty, he had attempted to beam Archer's prize beagle between planets during an argument with his instructor. The dog never materialised at the target location, so as an unofficial punishment, Scotty was sent to Delta Vega where Spock and James Kirk found him six months later. These events occured in 2258)

2246

Events
Kodos the Executioner, ca. 2246

    * Doctor Tristan Adams begins to revolutionize and humanize prisons and the treatment of prisoners by developing new methods to treat the criminally insane. Meanwhile, the Federation begins to convert a number of their penal colonies over to asylums to treat inmates, rather than to "cage" them up. (TOS: "Dagger of the Mind")

    * An exotic fungus destroys most of planet Tarsus IV's food supply. (TOS: "The Conscience of the King")

    * James T. Kirk - at the age of 13 - is one of nine surviving eyewitnesses to a massacre of some 4,000 colonists of Tarsus IV by Governor Kodos. (TOS: "The Conscience of the King")

Notes

    * Unused material for Hoshi Sato's bio seen in ENT: "In a Mirror, Darkly, Part II" stated that she and her family were among the victims at Tarsus IV.

2247
Events

    * Lenore Karidian is born. (TOS: "The Conscience of the King")
    * The first of many thousands of lives lost in the Eminiar-Vendikar War in the Eminiar system of Star Cluster NGC 321 is recorded by the United Federation of Planets. After suffering for nearly two decades this mounting loss of life, the Federation would seek permission from the planet Eminiar VII for the construction of a treaty port in their star system in 2267. (TOS: "A Taste of Armageddon")

Events

    * Spock decides to abandon his plan to join the Vulcan Science Academy in favor of joining Starfleet. (Star Trek)

Births

    * Charles Evans is born. (TOS: "Charlie X")
    * Joanna McCoy, daughter of Leonard McCoy, is born. (TAS: "The Survivor")

2250
Events

    * Robert April is appointed as Federation ambassador-at-large. (TAS: "The Counter-Clock Incident")

According to the Star Trek Chronology, April had also ended his five-year mission aboard USS Enterprise this year.

    * James Kirk is introduced to Gary Mitchell. Years later, they became friends when cadet Mitchell attended Lieutenant Kirk's philosophy class at Starfleet Academy. (TOS: "Where No Man Has Gone Before")

    * Spock enters Starfleet Academy, instead of enrolling at the Vulcan Science Academy, against Sarek's wishes. (TOS: "Journey to Babel", "The Enterprise Incident")

2251
Events

    * Christopher Pike assumes command of USS Enterprise, and takes the ship on its second five-year mission. (TOS: "The Menagerie, Part I", "The Menagerie, Part II")

    * Kirk befriends Lieutenant Commander Benjamin Finney, an instructor at Starfleet Academy. (TOS: "Court Martial")

2253
Events

    * Leonard McCoy develops a revolutionary medical procedure involving brain tissue engrafting. (VOY: "Lifesigns")

Given Leonard McCoy's birthyear as 2227, 2253 would be the year in which McCoy graduated from medical school assuming four years of pre-med, followed by four years of medical school, with McCoy having started college at the age of 18. McCoy's exact medical school graduation date has never been confirmed in a Star Trek production.

2254
Episodes

    * TOS: "The Cage"

Events
By starship

The treaty contains 500,000 words and took 372 Federation legal experts to draft. Upon concluding the treaty, the Sheliak ended communication with the Federation. Talks between the two would not happen again until the year 2366 when a dispute arose over a Human colony on Tau Cygna V. (TNG: "The Ensigns of Command")
    * Ensign James T. Kirk is promoted to lieutenant. (TOS: "The Corbomite Maneuver")
    * Lieutenant James T. Kirk commands his first planetary survey mission to Neural, where he meets Tyree. (TOS: "A Private Little War")

The next day, Kirk boards a Starfleet shuttlecraft, enlisting in Starfleet.
    * Leonard McCoy gets divorced from his wife and enlists in Starfleet, boarding the same transport as Kirk, resulting in a friendship between the two. (Star Trek)

    * The Enterprise and seven other Federation starships, including the USS Farragut proceed to Vulcan, but Hikaru Sulu, who replaces helmsman McKenna after McKenna falls ill, forgets to release the main external dampener. He releases it and they proceed to Vulcan, but a couple of minutes behind the other ships. (Star Trek)
    * They arrive only to find a debris field of the fleet, and the Narada hovering over Vulcan with a drilling platform in the lower atmosphere attempting to mine to the core. Nero orders the destruction of the Enterprise, only to realize what vessel he is firing on. (Star Trek)
    * Nero is first seen by the Federation and tells Spock that he wants him to see something as well as order Captain Pike to come aboard the Narada, just like he told Robau to 25 years earlier.
    * Pike is forced to go aboard, and he is accompanied by Kirk, Sulu and chief engineer Olson. The other three space-dive onto the platform, but Olson, who had the charges, is incinerated by the drilling beam. Pike appoints Spock acting captain and Kirk his first officer. (Star Trek)

Kirk objects and is marooned on Delta Vega. He gets chased by vicious animals and finds his rescuer is Spock himself, but 129 years older. Spock explains the situation to Kirk via a Mind Meld and they head for the Starfleet outpost 14km away. (Star Trek)

The Jellyfish destroys the drilling platform and escapes the area, to draw the battle away from Earth and sets a collision course for the Narada. He and Kirk along with Pike are transported away at the last second by the Enterprise, but the Jellyfish crashes into the Narada thereby igniting the red matter and causing a massive black hole, which consumes the Narada, and very nearly the Enterprise as well.
